Marc Henry, A Little About Me
Thanks for visiting the site – I hope to keep it regularly updated and will be posting the occasional blog in the ‘Ramblings’ section. Whether you visit my ‘Professional Portfolio’ or visit my ‘Personal Projects’ I hope you find the images interesting, exciting and most of all intriguing.
To tell a little of me : I was born and bred in Belfast, Northern Ireland and after completing my degree in technical theatre in London I was lured to the south coast of England by a woman promising clear air and country living. We now live amongst dogs, cats, chickens and horses plus the recent addition of our first child. Against my better judgment I have included a photograph of me at the top.
As to my working life, I have spent the last ten years on the lighting side of the entertainment industry working in television, events, theatre and music. As with many people, photography started as a hobby and has grown into something I can both work at and enjoy. I happen to believe it is very healthy to have a job that you can always do more with. Stills photography is something that continues to evolve - it can never be finished so no excuses about being bored !
Though I work almost entirely digitally I still try to maintain more of a ‘film’ shooting mindset. I try to take just as many frames as I need without my subject getting bored or incessant shutter thwacking becoming a distraction. I have worked with too many photographers brought up solely on digital who believe in shooting 1000 frames and picking the 20 best. For me, life is far too short to spend that much time behind a computer screen. When shooting portraits I would much prefer to spend an extra five minutes lighting the shot I have in my head than spending twenty minutes in Photoshop the next day. If I spent all my time at my desk the dog would never get walked and I wouldn’t have as much time to invest in making the perfect Mojito.
